MATTAPOISETT — The 139th summer season at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church concludes on Sunday, Sept. 3 with services, a hymn sing and more.
The Rev. Jeffrey Paull Cave will conduct services at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. using the 1928 Book of Common Prayer. Then at 4 p.m., the Cave and the Rev. Benjamin Straley will lead the congregation in an old-fashioned Hymn Sing.
Hymns are introduced along with their history and background, and requests for favorites are encouraged. Straley, prior to becoming a clergyman, was the organist and choirmaster at The National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.
Three priests will be honored at the Hymn Sing for their 40 years each of service to St. Philip’s: Cave, the Rev. Robert Malm, and the Rev. Philip Jacobs. A reception follows the Hymn Sing in the side yard.
St. Phillip’s is located at 34 Water St. in Mattapoisett.
