Rochester resident Arissa Underhill honored for volunteer work
Rochester resident Arissa Underhill, 15, received the Presidential Silver Service Award for her devotion to community service in her community and surrounding areas.
The ceremony was held on Thursday, June 14 at the Old Rochester Regional High School. As an official certifying organization for the Presidential Volunteer Service Award, the ORR School District selects local students who have demonstrated commitment, set an example and inspired others to do the same.
To earn a President's Volunteer Service Award, students 15-years and older must perform a minimum of 100 hours of documented service, and submit a signed form to the Community Service Learning Office for recognition at the end of the year.
Arissa was recognized for the Silver level with 249 hours.
In April, Arissa and her sister Deianeira received the 2012 Youth Heroes of the Year award by M.O. Life, Inc., a Fairhaven-based non-profit that assists people with disabilities.
