Student officer appointed to Marion police
MARION — A new officer will eventually be joining the Marion Police Department, after a few months of police academy training.
The Marion Select Board unanimously appointed Alexandra Glew as a student officer to the department Tuesday, Aug. 20.
A student officer is someone hired by a police department full-time who attends a training academy, according to Marion Police Chief Richard Nighelli.
“She’s ready to go,” Nighelli said.
Glew has experience as a dispatcher for the Regional Old Colony Communications Center in Duxbury.
During that time, Glew received two “life-saving awards,” according to Nighelli.
One of those awards was for giving CPR instructions over the phone to treat an unresponsive female. The other award was for providing childbirth and post-birth instructions, Nighelli said.
Glew will attend a police training academy in Plymouth beginning Monday, Aug. 26.
She is expected to graduate from the academy Jan. 31, 2025, according to Nighelli.
Nighelli said Glew will be assigned to the training academy full-time.
