Marion Select Board Chair receives award from regional agency
MARION — A regional planning agency recognized the chair of the Marion Select Board for his service to the commission Wednesday, Sept. 25.
Norm Hills received a distinguished service award from the Southeastern Regional Planning & Economic Development District at its annual meeting.
The distinction is given by SRPEDD for “leadership and outstanding service,” according to a news release from the town of Marion.
SRPEDD, which serves 27 municipalities, plans for land use, transportation, economy and environment in southeast Massachusetts, the release said.
The agency advises in transportation, economic development, homeland security, and environmental and comprehensive planning.
Hills has served for the commission since 2017 and is its treasurer and former secretary.
SRPEDD’s executive director, Jeffrey Walker, presented the award and said it recognized Hills’ “able and longstanding leadership on behalf of the community.”
“We are truly the beneficiaries of your experience and commitment to Southeast Massachusetts,” Walker said.
Hills also serves on the agency’s finance and personnel committees. The award has been given since 1977 to “exemplary” commissioners, according to the release.
Hills was further recognized at a Tuesday, Oct. 1 Marion Select Board meeting,
“Good job, Mr. Hills,” Marion Select Board member Randy Parker said. “Well deserved.”
