Adding fuel to the fireworks: Marion considers reinstating firework committee
MARION — Fourth of July in Marion could be a real blast, as the Marion Select Board considers reinstating the previously disbanded firework committee.
“It’s not a cheap endeavor,” said Geoffrey Gorman, Marion town administrator.
The total cost for the firework display is estimated to be around $50,000 to $60,000, according to Gorman. This factors in various needs, including the fireworks, barge, audio system and police detail.
Fireworks for the Fourth of July were originally envisioned to take place every other year. However, the town has hosted fireworks for “at least two, maybe three years in a row,” according to Gorman.
Looking forward, Gorman stated they need to get updated details on how much money is available in the “coffers” for the potential firework display.
Jennifer Stewart, an accounts payable coordinator for the town of Marion, is set to be appointed as chair of the new fireworks committee at the town’s next Select Board meeting.
