Event Date:
MARION — For the first time in decades, the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra will be performing in Marion.
Two shows are scheduled for Friday, March 14 and Saturday, March 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Fireman Center for the Performing Arts.
“It’s really kind of the aligning of the planets because we haven’t seen the New Bedford Symphony in Marion in decades and they’re coming,” said Philip Sanborn, music director of the Tri-County Symphony Band.
The symphony will perform Ludwig Van Beethoven’s Piano Concert No. 3 and Adolphus Hailstork’s Symphony No. 3 on Friday and Saturday.
According to Sanborn, “Two really fine pianists” will be featured throughout the weekend.
Yaniv Dinur, pianist and music director of New Bedford Symphony, will perform as a featured soloist for both Friday and Saturday’s performances while Matt Richard who is “one of the finest jazz piano players in the area” will be performing alongside the Tri-County Symphonic Band.
Sanborn and the Tri-County Symphonic Band will perform during the weekend showcase on Sunday, March 16 at 3 p.m. The band will depart from their usual classical performances and play a jazz program.
In addition to the featured pianists, United States Coast Guard Chief Musician and clarinet soloist Charlie Suriyakham will perform with the Tri-County Symphonic Band.
“It’s pretty amazing that all this music is going to happen in one single weekend in the little town of Marion,” said Sanborn.
