MARION — A kitchen worker at Tabor Academy was arrested after allegedly exposing himself to two students while they were in the school’s dining hall area on Wednesday, April 16, according to Marion Police Chief Richard Nighelli.

Marion Police received a call from Tabor Academy at 11:58 a.m. after the students reported the kitchen worker, 37-year-old New Bedford resident Joao Andrade, for indecent exposure.

Andrade, who is employed by Tabor’s contracted food service provider Filk Independent School Dining, was arraigned on Thursday, April 17 by the Wareham District Court.

He was charged with one count of open and gross lewdness and pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Andrade was released from custody without having to pay bail and ordered by the court to “stay away from all Tabor Academy students including the alleged victims,” according to information from the Plymouth District Office of the District Attorney.

"I would like to thank the Marion Police officers who used their extensive training and expertise to investigate quickly and bring this case to conclusion,” Nighelli said. I'd also like to thank the New Bedford and Mattapoisett Police departments for providing translation assistance, aiding us in the investigation."
