James Vincent Powers, of Plymouth and Wareham, died October 4 on his 80th birthday in Jordan Hospital, while surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Christine L. (Gove) Powers and the son of the late Thomas J. and Helen L. (Lyons) Powers.

He was born in Worcester and lived in Plymouth for many years and made his current home in Wareham. He graduated from St. Columbkille High School in Brighton and attended Boston University.

He was a Korean War Veteran serving in the United States Air Force.

Mr. Powers owned and operated Abbey Glass in Wareham for many years after its founding in 1972.

He enjoyed biking, boating, fishing, watercolor painting, and the stock market. He loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a founding member of the National Brain Injury Association.

Survivors include his wife, Christine L. (Gove) Powers; three sons, Michael Powers of Dartmouth, Douglas Powers of West Wareham and Gary Powers of Marion; a daughter, Dianne Powers of Cromwell, CT; a brother, Richard K. Powers of Middleboro; eight grandchildren. He was the brother of the late John Powers and Mary Dowd.

His funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 6, in the Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham. Burial will follow in Agawam Cemetery, Wareham.

Visiting hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
