Puppy Dog Tales: New program encourages kids to read
Oct 24, 2012
Sadie is illiterate and she always will be, but that doesn’t mean she can’t help kids read better.
The two-year-old goldendoodle and her owner Jenna Gifford, a certified teacher with a masters in literacy education, are helping children improve their reading with a new program at the Mattapoisett Library.
Reluctant readers get to practice their reading each week by sharing books with Sadie. “Research proves that it makes reading more fun for the children and provides an atmosphere that is less stressful for the student,” said Gifford.
Gifford is focusing on third grade students. Contact the library for more information at 508-758-4171.
