Severe weather causes local power outages

Oct 31, 2012

Hurricane Sandy has passed but a related storm with severe thunderstorms, rain and wind knocked out power for many local residents on Tuesday night.

In response, the National Weather Service issued severe thunderstorm and flash flood warnings for the area effective until 8:30 p.m.

Marion officials responded to 12 calls from residents about outages, including the intersection at Route 6 and Point Road.

The storm's impact was felt mostly on the east side of Marion by the Point Road area, according to the town's Fire Department.

After Sandy hit, there were 1,051 customers that were reported by NSTAR to be without power on Tuesday morning. By Wednesday morning, that number had dropped to 244.
