Harlem Wizards school Wareham in basketball at Old Rochester
Magic and basketballs were in the air on Monday as the Harlem Wizards took over the Old Rochester Regional High School gym to raise money for Wareham elementary schools.
The game was more of an exhibition, with the Wizards showing their skills by making their opponents look ridiculous for trying to slow them down -- all for a good cause, of course.
From throwing back flips to spinning balls and taking shots from across the court, the Wizards had the crowd on its feet most of the night.
While there’s no final count yet on how much money was raised, the large and raucous crowd spoke volumes about the success of the event.
“I don’t have an exact count, but it looks pretty full,” Village PTA Fundraising Coordinator Jennifer Weisberg said, scanning the crowd in the gym. “They told us it seats 750.”
The final tally on the scoreboard was 75-68, with the Wizards taking the win, but the elementary school students were the real winners.
