School officials prepare for storm clean-up
With the winter storm walloping the South Coast with up to two feet of snow this weekend, local school officials are preparing for a long weekend of clean up.
The generators at the Mattapoisett elementary schools, Rochester Memorial School, Sippican School, and both the Old Rochester Regional Junior and Senior High Schools are good to go if needed, said Gene Jones, Facilities Director for the Old Rochester Regional schools.
"Everything is ready. The generators are up and on," Jones said during Thursday's meeting of the Rochester School Committee.
The storm rolled in on Friday morning and is expected to continue until late on Saturday.
All of the schools in the three towns cancelled classes for Friday in preparation for the storm.
Jones has called in additional staff to work over the weekend clearing snow outside of each of the schools and to assess any damage that might occur due to the storm.
