On Monday at 9:11 a.m., the Marion Police Department responded to a Mill Street address for a report of a deceased person outside, in a backyard.

According to a police report, another call was received, reporting a missing elderly male from the residence next door.

Responding officers located the man, Marion resident Peter Monteiro, behind a neighbor’s fence, near the woods, according to the police report.

Monteiro, 89, was pronounced dead at the scene.

At this time, there is no indication of any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, according to the police report. Results from the autopsy are pending.

This case is being investigated by Detective Scott Smith and Officer Anthony DiCarlo of the Marion Police Department. The State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner are also working on the case
