Join us upstairs in the MAC’s Patsy Francis Gallery for an evening of unplugged music featuring Matt Richard and Donn Legge! This jazz guitar and piano duo was recently formed, but Matt and Donn have known each other and collaborated in many musical events beginning at Westfield State College in the early 1980s.
There will be two separate performances during the night, and each set will last about 45 minutes. Find a spot at a cabaret table to listen to a mix of jazz standards and original compositions by both artists. Guests will enjoy a refreshing setting at this “unplugged” performance featuring mainly acoustic sound, without the volume and density of bass and drums often experienced during larger concerts in the MAC Theater. Guests may bring their own beverages and snacks to enjoy in this intimate setting.
Donn Legge is a busy performer on the South Coast of Massachusetts. He can be seen playing with Blues Train, South Coast Jazz Orchestra, Patrice Tiedmann’s Seaglass Theater, Dori Rubbicco, NB Rude Boys, and Kareem Sanjaghi on Cape Cod. While living in Miami Florida for a number of years Donn played with the “Miami Heat Band” in the late ‘80’s and also with Gogi Grant, Rich Little and Trini Lopez. Donn received his bachelor’s degree in music from Westfield State University ‘82 and a Masters in Jazz studies ‘85 from the University of Miami Fl. Donn accepted his first teaching job in Miami in ‘85 and taught full time music in public high schools until ‘00 when he and his family returned to Massachusetts. Donn continued teaching music in the public schools until his retirement last year.
Matt Richard studied classical piano with Ken Manzer and jazz piano with Dr. Billy Taylor and graduated from Westfield State College with a degree in piano performance. Mr. Richard composes and arranges music in many styles and has performed throughout the New England area as a soloist and accompanist with many different ensembles and musicians. Such musicians include jazz vocal legend Sheila Jordan, The Artie Shaw Orchestra (led by Dick Johnson), and the Monday Night Jazz Series at The Roadhouse Cafe in Hyannis. Self produced recording projects include Hawthorne Street Connection, Talking To Myself, OFF SEASON, The Art of the Duo, In The Sky, The Music of Rick Britto, Winter Peace, The Jazz Club, and Christmas Love.
