New Bedford Symphony Offers a Midwinter Reset Through Soul-Stirring Music and Unique Experiences

In a world that rarely slows down, the New Bedford Symphony invites you to step away from the noise and step into something truly nourishing. On Saturday, February 14, at 7:30 PM at the newly renovated Zeiterion, experience Romantic Revelations—our first concert back in this beautifully reimagined space. It’s an evening designed to relax, recharge, and restore, with music that speaks directly to the heart.

This soul-stirring concert opens with Samuel Barber’s Overture to The School for Scandal, a whirlwind of wit, charm, and high-spirited energy that sets the tone for an emotionally rich journey.

Next, former NBSO Concertmaster Jesse Holstein joins the orchestra for Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s lyrical and passionate Violin Concerto—a powerful, rediscovered work by a groundbreaking Black British composer whose music is finally being celebrated. It's a tribute to resilience and beauty, performed with soul and sincerity.

After a 20-minute intermission, the evening continues with the sweeping magic of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 1, “Winter Dreams”—a tender, evocative portrait of the quiet awe and wonder of the season.

Come Early for the Full Experience
Make the most of your evening by arriving early to explore the beautiful new public spaces, grab a drink from the bar in the Baker Family Lobby, and enjoy restorative pre-concert experiences designed to help you unwind. At 6:35 and 7:05 PM, Sangha Yoga will lead a gentle 15-minute session in the Dr. Gail Davidson Movement Studio—a calming reset to help you slow down, settle in, and open your senses. Between 6:30 and 7:30 PM, head downstairs to the Speakeasy for a bourbon tasting with CEO Dave Prentiss, then make your way up to the second-floor Bristol County Savings Bank Lounge, where Southcoast Health’s Community Wellness Program will offer a heart-centered activity in honor of American Heart Month.  And from 6:30 to 7:00 PM
in the auditorium, join Music Director Yaniv Dinur and guest artist Jesse Holstein for an always-popular pre-concert chat—a thoughtful preview that deepens your connection to the music and enhances your listening experience.

More than a concert, this is your winter escape—a moment to pause, reconnect, and let the music carry you somewhere new.

“There’s a magic in the rhythms of our South Coast winters,” says NBSO Music Director Yaniv Dinur. “This concert mirrors that natural serenity and offers a way to feel inspired, renewed, and more deeply connected to yourself and your community.”

Whether you're seeking peace, joy, or simply a beautiful night out, this is your invitation to breathe deeper—and feel more.
