2024 Harbor Days post unprecedented food sales

MATTAPOISETT — In the midst of drawing bustling crowds, 2024’s rendition of Mattapoisett Lions Club’s Harbor Days weekend shattered event records in terms of food sales.

While attendees shopped for art and listened to live music, their stomachs were able to enjoy themselves too.

According to Mattapoisett Lions Club Treasurer Connie Hayes, more hot dogs and lobsters were purchased at the 2024 Harbor Days than any other Harbor Days ever.

At this year’s event, 338 hot dogs were purchased during the course of the weekend, which is 145 more than ever before according to Hayes.

For Saturday night’s lobster dinner, 210 of the crustaceans were consumed. The previous high for the dinner was 160 lobsters.

Other records broken include bowls of clam chowder eaten and cacoila sandwiches bought. Cacoila is a type of Portuguese pork.

The total money made from food sales during Harbor Days’ weekend is still being calculated, according to Hayes.

“Seeing these Harbor Days records being broken makes me feel incredibly inspired,” said Lynne Foley, president of the Mattapoisett Lions Club. “It’s a testament to the dedication, skill and passion of everyone involved. Witnessing such achievements not only boosts morale but also sets new benchmarks for future endeavors. It’s a thrilling reminder of what can be accomplished with hard work and a positive spirit.”
