2.4 earthquake rumbles through tri-town
Feb 11, 2014
At 5:46 p.m. on Tuesday evening, the tri-town felt its second earthquake in as many months with a 2.4-magnitude earthquake centered in the Bliss Corner area of Dartmouth.
The U.S. Geological Survey and the Weston Observatory at Boston College confirmed the quake, which drew plenty of speculation on social media. Some blamed the rumble on an explosion while others said a 4.1 earthquake had hit off the coast of Nantucket.
Mattapoisett Police received several calls associated with the quake on Tuesday, which was accompanied by a loud boom.
No damage or injuries were reported.
In January, an earthquake centered in Fairhaven and registering 1.9 on the Richter Scale, jostled the area.
