MARION — A 28-year-old Rochester resident died Sunday after swerving to avoid a car and veering off the roadway on Route 6 Saturday night.

On Oct. 13, at about 6:51 p.m., the Marion Police Department received multiple 911 calls reporting a crash on the Wareham Road portion of Route 6 near Gilda’s Stone Rooster.

Police and fire units located a 2006 Pontiac sedan in the woods on the north side of the road. The driver was trapped in the car, but Marion firefighters were able to remove him from the vehicle.

Police officers identified the driver as 28-year-old Sean Kozlowski of Rochester. Kozlowski was transported to Tobey Hospital, and later airlifted to Rhode Island Hospital where he died of his injuries.

Witnesses at the scene told police investigators that the Kozlowski was traveling west and swerved to avoid another vehicle that was exiting the parking lot of Gilda’s Stone Rooster. There was no contact between the two vehicles, but Kozlowski lost control and went off the road.

The Marion Police Department called the Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction Team and Massachusetts State Police Detectives to help with the investigation.

Marion Police also called in officers from the Rochester Police Department and the Wareham Police Department to manage traffic flow, as the accident partially shut down Route 6 for approximately three hours.

Marion Police, Marion Fire and Marion EMS were dispatched to the scene.

The accident is still under investigation by the Marion Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police.
