Progress made in Old Colony new building project
ROCHESTER — As Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School looks to expand offerings in plumbing, HVAC-R and dental assisting, as well as admit more students, a proposed plan is in the works to build a new building on the school’s campus.
On Friday, Aug. 28, Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School delivered its Final Schematic Design Submission to the Massachusetts School Building Authority.
This submission will allow the school to share next steps in project planning and a broader vision of what the project will mean for the school’s educational future, wrote Superintendent Aaron Polansky in a letter to the Old Colony community.
This submission is also the final step in a process that would secure almost $130 million in state funding support for a new building.
Over the next 10 weeks, representatives from the school will visit member towns Mattapoisett, Rochester, Acushnet, Carver and Lakeville to provide updates and answer questions about the proposed project.
A local election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 18 in the towns Old Colony serves to allow residents to vote on the proposed new building project. The election will be held from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
“All the members of the vocational district can decide whether they want to fund a new Old Colony building,” said Rochester Town Administrator Cameron Durant.
Representatives from Old Colony will attend the upcoming Rochester Select Board meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 15 and a Mattapoisett Select Board meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 23 to give presentations on the project and provide residents with more information. Both meetings begin at 6 p.m.
