Abington ends ORR's undefeated season

Nov 16, 2013

The Old Rochester Regional High School football team entered Saturday night’s game hoping to enter the state semi-finals.

Instead, they were outmatched by Abington, who turned the tables on the previously undefeated team, as the Bulldogs fell 47-20.

Two big turnovers from the Bulldogs set up Abington for success. In the third quarter, Abington’s Luca Cerasani picked up a fumble and returned it nearly 45 yards for a touchdown.

In the first quarter, another fumble set up Abington one-yard from the Bulldog’s end zone, which the visitors capitalized on.

But the Bulldogs kept up the pressure. At the half they were within striking distance with the score 28-20 as Abington held onto a narrow lead.

“We gave them the everything we had,” Coach Henry Quinlan told his players. “You have nothing to be ashamed of this was a championship game.”

After the game, both teams were recognized by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association for playing in the Division 5 South playoff finals.

The season’s not over though. On Thanksgiving, the Bulldogs take the field at home to play Apponequet at 10 a.m. The winner of that game will be crowned South Coast Conference Champion.
