Adelia P. (Rose) Mendes, 87, of Wareham passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 31. She was the widow of the late Frank Mendes and the daughter of the late Theodore N. DeRosa Dias and Mary Theresa Lima Rose.

Mrs. Mendes retired from Bouton’s Company in Buzzards Bay.

She lived in Onset for many years before moving to Wareham. She was a member of the Dudley Brown VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the Council on Aging and the Red Hatters Society which she loved. She enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with family and friends. She was a unique soul and will be missed by us all.

She is survived by her daughter, Andrea L. Rose and her best friend, Ramon Lopez of Mattapoisett; her son, Douglas Mendes and his wife Sandra of Wareham; her sister, Theresa Pina of Onset; four grandchildren, Douglas Mendes, Jr. and his wife, Yvonne, Nathan Mendes and his wife Michelle, Dawn Mendes and her companion, Eric Elliot and Eric Rose and his wife, Bonnie; seven great grandchildren, Brenden, Nicolaus, Noah, Zachary, Bryant, Rhea and Sonia. She was the sister of the late Edwin Rose, John Rose, Antone Rose and Madelyn Smallwood.

Her funeral will be held at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 8, from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, Onset. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Wareham.

Visiting hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
