Advent Christian Campground may be eligible for preservation
MARION — The Tremont Advent Camp Meeting property on Oakdale Avenue was recently determined eligible to be listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
The Massachusetts Historical Commission made the preliminary approval following a unanimous vote of support by the Tremont Association Board of Directors.
The camp originated in the 1860s in the Tremont section of Wareham, then relocated to Hammett’s Cover after a fire destroyed the camp. The new buildings were constructed between 1906 and 1911. Many of the cottages are still owned by the families who constructed them.
The Marion Historical Commission has contracted preservation consultant Eric Dray to complete the nomination.
Community Preservation funds will cover the cost of the project. Submission of the final nomination papers is anticipated for summer 2026, after which the Marion Historical Committee submits it to the National Park Service for final approval.
