All for one and one for all: Bike donation program to head into its fifth year
Event Date:
MATTAPOISETT — “Bikes for All,” a program organized by the Friends of the Mattapoisett Bicycle and Recreational Path, will soon enter its fifth fall season of collecting, refurbishing and distributing bicycles of all sizes.
Over 280 children and adults have received recycled bikes over the past four years and with an upcoming donation day set for Sunday, Sept. 14, this number will soon rise.
Donated bikes often go to people throughout the South Coast who have requested them to get to work or school or to simply enjoy the beauty of the region’s bike paths.
Friends of the Mattapoisett Rail Trail is requesting gently used bikes with wheels that are at least 20-inches. Bikes can be dropped off at the Mattapoisett Congregational Church at 27 Church Street from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14.
A team of skilled cyclists will refurbish the donated bikes and equip them with a bell and lights.
For those who would like to make a donation but are unable to get to the Mattapoisett Congregational Church on Sunday, Sept. 14, contact Jane Finnerty at 631-312-2560 or by email at Jane.mattrail@gmail.com to arrange a meeting.
