Alleged drunk driver damages Mattapoisett fire department truck

Monyca Vickers, 34, was arrested for driving while intoxicated on March 28 after police say she ran her car into a Chevy Tahoe owned by the Fire Department.

Police officers report that a neighbor at 21 Cove St. "heard a loud crash, went outside and observed a dark colored vehicle had crashed in to a red truck." The truck was pushed into a nearby house, resulting in damage to its front end and rear bumper. Vickers' Nissan Altima was also damaged.

A Mattapoisett resident, Vickers reportedly approached the police as they were examining the scene and identified herself as the owner of the Altima. Police say she "stated that she was drunk and that she should not have been driving."

Vickers refused a sobriety test and was arrested for operating under the influence. While being taken to the police station, officers reported that she yelled at herself for making "a big mistake." She was booked and later released on $40 bail.

Officers took an inventory of Vickers' car, reportedly finding two empty nip bottles, six empty bottles of wine and an empty bottle of vodka in the trunk as well as a small plastic bag that had cocaine residue in the passenger seat.

Vickers was arraigned the following day at Wareham District Court for operating under the influence and the negligent operation of a motor vehicle. Her case was continued.

Mattapoisett police declined to comment as the case is still pending. The costs of the damage to the Fire Department's truck and to the house that was hit are not known at this time.
