America's Cup race officer to speak on yachting competition
John Craig, principal race officer for the America’s Cup Race, an international yachting competition, will hold two presentations at the Music Hall on Saturday, March 1.
From 3 to 4:30 p.m., Craig will present ‘Race Committee 101’ for anyone who wants to get involved. This presentation will cover the basics such as types of boats and racing, the purpose and duties of the race committee, equipment and jobs of the race committee and what to expect out on the water. Admission is free. Coffee and water will be available.
From 5 to 6:30 p.m., Craig will offer an inside scoop on the race itself and his experiences. As race manager at San Francisco’s St. Francis Yacht Club, Craig has run everything from Optimist regattas to World Championships for the Star and Melges 32 class. The event is open to the public. Admission is $10; 18 & under is free.
