Anthropologist to discuss Ukraine and Russian May 7
Anthropologist Myron Stachiw will discuss the Ukraine on Thursday, May 7 at 7 p.m. at the Marion Music Hall.
The past decade in Ukraine has witnessed a series of social and political upheavals. Russia’s actions have changed the diplomatic foundations and guiding principles of international relations among countries that guided the post-World War II world. The lecture will discuss the long social and cultural history of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, the nature of the Orange Revolution and the Revolution of Dignity, and the possible future outcomes of the current, frozen conflict facing Ukraine and the world.
Myron Stachiw is an educator, historian, archaeologist and architectural historian. He received his B.A. in anthropology from Brown University. He went on to earn a M.A. in American and New England Studies at Boston University. From 2006 to 2012, he served as director of the Ukraine Office of the Institute of Higher Education and the Fulbright Program in Ukraine. Currently, Stachiw is a visiting lecturer at UMass Amherst.
