Art center to feature floral festivities in June

May 29, 2021

MARION — Art in Bloom, a three-day floral arrangement showcase, will return to the Marion Art Center from June 24 to 26.

Anyone is invited to create an arrangement for Art in Bloom, and designers may work in pairs or teams.

Designers can use any of the art center’s available pedestals for displaying arrangements, but are encouraged to bring their own stand of appropriate size and height.

Arrangements will be paired with artworks beginning on Saturday, June 5 at 10:00 a.m., giving designers almost three weeks to put together their displays.

Artistic floral arrangements will remain on display from Thursday, June 24 at noon through Saturday, June 26 at 2:00 p.m.

A number of other floral events will be held at the art center in June.

Tickets are now on sale for the art center’s play, “Native Gardens,” opening June 11 in Bicentennial Park. Six shows run over the weekends of June 11 and 18. All Friday and Saturday shows begin at 6 p.m., and Sunday matinees begin at 2 p.m. Tickets are $18 for MAC members and $20 for nonmembers.

There will be a watercolor painting workshop on Thursday, June 24 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with artist Patricia White. The workshop is $50 for members and $60 for nonmembers. Each participant will create a watercolor painting inspired by a still life floral arrangement. Also on June 24 is a reception for Art in Bloom, from 6 to 8 p.m.

On Saturday, June 26 from 10 to 11:30 a.m., the art center will host Lisa Larkin and Lisa Tovin, founders of L2 Florals for a “Fresh Blossoms and Foraged Materials Workshop.” The workshop is $40 for members and $50 for nonmembers, plus a $30 materials fee. Materials provided include a 5” vase, blossoms, and branching materials, and floral scissors will be available for loan or purchase.
