Artists to take studios outside for Marion’s Arts in the Park

Jul 6, 2015

With hand-dyed silk scarves, homemade soaps and fine jewelry on sale, the Marion Art Center’s ninth annual Arts in the Park will feature a variety of items from area artists.

Forty-four artists from the tri-town and South Coast will set up booths in Bicentennial Park located at the corner of Main and Spring Streets. The free event will be held on Saturday, July 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“We do have new vendors this year, which is always fun,” said Marion Art Center Executive Director Deborah Bokelkamp. “We’re hoping for a gorgeous day.”

Bokelkamp said the event also features live entertainment by Yesterday’s Country Band and the New Bedford Museum of Art’s ArtMobile will be on hand to provide art projects for children from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There will be a raffle of artwork that has been donated by the artist exhibitors.  Raffle tickets will be for sale and can be purchased throughout the day. The proceeds of the raffle will benefit the operation and maintenance of the Marion Art Center.

The Center’s galleries will be open during the event where the latest exhibition of paintings by Kim Weineck and Eli Cedrone will be on view and for sale.

Arts in the Park is happening on the same weekend as the annual Gardens by the Sea tour and the Buzzards Bay Musicfest, making for a cultural filled weekend.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity to get outside and enjoy some fabulous art as part of a art-filled weekend,” she said. “It’s a coming together of all sorts of cultural experiences for the community.”
