The ArtMobile visits the Elizabeth Taber Library

MARION — Fast fashion.

The New Bedford Art Museum’s ArtMobile visited patrons of the Elizabeth Taber Library on June 26, featuring its “Uncommon Threads” exhibit.

The exhibit featured works by Ruth E. Carter, a costume designer and Massachusetts native who’s known for her work on the 2018 movie “Black Panther.”

The ArtMobile van is an art outreach program based out of New Bedford.  “It brings the art to you,” Devin Mclaughlin, a New Bedford-based artist who works for the New Bedford Art Museum, said.  He said that the van works with people of all ages, “kids all the way to seniors, anyone with any skill can do it.”

For instance, Aubrey Aresenault-Sousa was there to celebrate her ninth birthday with her family. “I really like art and I hope to become an artist when I grow up,” Arsenault-Sousa said.  She said her favorite type of art is drawing cartoons.

There were many different projects for kids of all ages to enjoy.  Advanced artists learned to make origami. Then the beginner artists made a bookmark in honor of being located at the Elizabeth Taylor library that day.

The ArtMobile will return to the Elizabeth Taber Library on July 17.
