On Aug. 13, the first “Bike Friendly Mattapoisett” meeting was held at the Mattapoisett Library.

The nation designation requires a community to set up safety guidelines as well as bike maps and resources for cyclists.

In the first meeting, the group showed interested in creating a social bike riding club; creating a set of publicly available riding maps for different riding abilities; working with the town to improve safety; and working with the police to enhance the bike safety instruction program at the town’s schools.

A second meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 6 p.m. at the Mattapoisett Library.
