Bingo, butterflies at Grace Pond nature hike

MATTAPOISETT — Old Grace Pond Preserve had a meadow, E-I-E-I-O.

Kids came to the Mattapoisett Land Trust’s Grace Pond Preserve property to play a game of nature bingo, go on a story walk and learn about the plants and animals at the property.

The hike was led by the Land Trust’s Mary Ann Buckley, who taught participants about the Monarch butterflies, milkweed and berries that occupy the meadow.

The group stopped at a well on the property, where they each made wishes with coins brought by Land Trust Director Ellyn Flynn.

Brothers Andrew and Peter followed along, and came very close to completing the full bingo card.

Andrew said his favorite part of the hike was “that we found almost everything except the bunny.”

Peter, on the other hand, liked the bench where the group stopped for a moment to look out at the pond.
