Birds, butterflies and frogs: Marion Natural History Museum hosts animal seminar
MARION — Killing two birds with one stone, the Marion Natural History Museum hosted a multifaceted seminar where various nature experts shared their insights regarding different species including birds, butterflies and frogs.
The “Butterfly Man” Joe Dwelly shared his experiences with native butterflies, doling out his knowledge of butterfly migration, food sources, habits during winter and native plants that benefit them.
President of Nasketucket Bird Club Justin Barrett gave a presentation about the birds of Panama. Barrett presented photos of various “beautifully colored" bird species he saw on his trip to Panama, expanding upon the specializations of their beaks made for eating fruit.
He also presented photos of other exotic animals in Panama, including several monkeys.
“Certified Frog Watcher” Maggie Payne presented information about frog watches and how to identify various frogs through appearance and sound, including the quack of the Wood Frog and the Green Frog’s “banjo twang.”
