ROCHESTER — Edna Chadwick received the Boston Post Cane for being Rochester’s oldest resident on Tuesday, June 11.

Selectman Brad Morse honored the 101-year-old with the cane that has been passed from resident to resident since 1909. The New England tradition that began when Edwin A. Grozier, publisher of the Boston Post, sent canes to 700 towns throughout Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island.

Canes were originally presented to the oldest man living in the town, but women became eligible to receive the honor in 1930.
