Bowlmor owners working to reopen
MATTAPOISETT — The owners of the Bowlmor have hired Cape Building Systems to work on structural drawings of the condemned building, a first step in repairing and reopening it.
Sue Penta, one of the building’s three owners, is not sure of the timeframe for the building’s repair, or eventual reopening, but intends to restore the bowling alley to its original state.
“The building suffered structural damage from the heavy snow,” said Penta, who owns the building with Michael Penta and Angelo Paolini.
The town condemned the Bowlmor in February 2017 after seven of the eight trusses that support the roof collapsed. Though supports were installed to hold up five of the building’s trusses, the town still judged the building dangerous and unsafe.
“It’s been a long [repair] process because the building inspector was also out,” Sue Penta explained.
The next step in the process will be for the owners and Cape Building Systems to file for a repair permit.
