Building commissioner halts construction at Tabor Academy
Ongoing construction on the Tabor Academy baseball field has been stopped. In a letter sent to the school Thursday, Building Commissioner Scott Shippey denied the request for building permit applications on the grounds that the foundation, backstop, and dugouts are clearly defined as a structures, and therefore subject to town bylaws. Construction ceased by 7 p.m. Thursday.
According to town bylaws, no permit will be given to build a structure with a floor area of 500 feet until the planning board issues a statement of approval.
The submitted plans for construction also did not indicate handicap access.
In an email, Tabor Headmaster Jay Stroud said he was unable to comment at this time.
UPDATE July 7, 2:15 p.m.: In a preliminary letter to be sent to residents, Tabor Headmaster Jay Stroud has addressed the issue of construction on the school’s athletic fields. In the letter Stroud briefly addresses the issue of construction being halted, saying building code issues are being discussed with the town. He also believes the approval process for the work was fair and open, and is confident in the work being completed.
