Bulldogs chew through Viking defense in 38-20 win

Nov 9, 2013

In the second half of Friday night’s playoff game, the Old Rochester Regional High School Bulldogs played a relentless 22 minutes of football to defeat the East Bridgewater Vikings 38-20.

The game went into halftime tied 14-14, but not before ORR senior and wide receiver Chris Demers made a dramatic interception seconds before the quarter ended.

The Bulldogs returned and relied on running back Richie Philips who scored two ORR touchdowns in the second half. Nolan Bergeron scored the third touchdown that put the team at 38 points.

With temperatures in the high 30s and a stiff north wind blowing, the team turned to its running game opting to keep the ball close to the ground.

Viking defense kept the game close in the first half, but Philips and Bergeron broke tackles and found ways to get to first down.

Quarterback Haydon Bergeron put in a solid performance and avoided the few fumbles and interceptions that undid the Vikings throughout the second half.

Coach Henry Quinlan credited everyone for the win, adding that a scouting report before Friday aided the team.

“Top to bottom this was a great effort,” he said. “It takes a whole program to win a game.”

The win puts the team further into the state playoffs. The Bulldogs play Abington High School at 7 p.m. at ORR High School on Nov. 15.
