The Old Rochester Regional High School boys basketball team extended its winning streak to five games by defeating Case High School on Friday.

The Bulldogs won 55-44, but fans couldn’t relax until the final minutes of the home game's fourth quarter.

Coach Steve Carvalho said the team was prepared for a tough matchup.

“We knew coming into this game Case had two, big, physical players we were going to have to handle,” Carvalho said.

Stopping Case's offense did hurt the Bulldogs in the first half.

“We did get into foul trouble early,” Carvalho said. After the team racked up fouls, Case scored on a number of free throws.

The teams were evenly matched for most of the game. At the half, the teams were tied 29-29. In the third quarter, strong defense kept the score at an even 36 for a number of minutes.

And then Captain Jeremy Bare found the basket through heavy traffic for a hard-fought layup.

Though Case threatened Old Rochester's lead, the Bulldogs stayed ahead for the rest of the game. In the fourth quarter, Old Rochester pulled away on a series of fast breaks courtesy of Raekwon Philips.

Multiple turnovers in the final quarter also hurt the visitors.

To ensure the win, Carvalho called a full court press to pressure the Case offense in the final minutes.

“We wore them down a little,” he said.

The Bulldogs' next game is away against Apponequet Regional High School onTuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Carvalho said the team proved a challenge for Wareham, a longtime basketball powerhouse.

“They are a tough team,” he said. “They gave Wareham fits.”

The win puts the Bulldogs' overall record at 8-2. For the South Coast Conference the team is 6-2.

High scorers for the Bulldogs were Bare, who had 20 points, and Philips, who scored 16.
