Bulldogs quarterback injured in loss
The Bulldogs football team lost Friday night’s home game, and quarterback Alex Aruri who went down with a knee injury in the fourth quarter.
After the 16-14 loss to Norwell High School, the Bulldog’s record is 5-5. The team ends its regular season Thanksgiving Day with an away game against Apponequet High School.
Friday’s game was scoreless in the second half, though the Bulldogs had several drives that could have turned the game in their favor.
With about three minutes left in the fourth quarter, Aruri was tackled after running for 11 yards in Norwell territory. He remained on the ground clutching his right knee, which had been injured last year. Aruri spent eight months rehabilitating it to get ready for this season.
Teammates carried him off the field where the school medical personnel examined him.
A senior and starting quarterback Aruri served as the team’s leader.
During the game, Aruri scored the Bulldogs first touchdown, running the ball in from the one-yard line, to make the game 8-6 in the first quarter.
He scored again near the end of the first half by running the ball in from the 21-yard line.
After the game, Coach Henry Quinlan said the game was well fought on both sides.
“[The Bulldogs] played a hard game against a really tough football team,” he said.
