MATTAPOISETT — The Old Rochester Regional High School varsity football team brought home a big win at its first home game of the season.
The team beat Plymouth North High School 27-13 during a Friday, Sept. 11 game. Head Coach Bryce Guilbeault said the team wants to win an SCC championship like it did last year, which starts with winning these opening games.
“We were really young last year, and we gained a lot of experience,” Guilbeault said. “We’ve got some good senior leadership, captain leadership. We’re open to come out and compete every night and get better every damn practice.”
Junior Chase Demelo said the team came together and performed really well.
“I’m really looking forward to this season. I think it’s going to be a bounceback year from last year,” the lineman said. “I think we’re doing great. I think we’re going to get our revenge tour going.”
Junior Benji Baptiste, one of the team’s five captains, scored two touchdowns during the game. Although he got “hit up a little early” in the game, he said he was very happy with his kick return and his overall performance. He hopes to carry this momentum into next week.
“We have a very young team, a lot of potential,” Baptiste said. “We gotta move on to the next week and keep going. We fought hard. I’m very happy. We have some things to clean up, but I’m happy with what we did.”
Baptiste said he was extremely grateful to be named captain his junior year, which doesn’t happen often.
“I definitely have high goals but I care about the team more,” Baptiste said. “It’s not just personal success. I care about the team’s success too. Definitely high hopes for the season.”
Families and students filled the bleachers, and many in the student section dressed up in costume or paint and waved flags to show their support.

Student Keagan Soners said he was hoping for a big win.
“I’m here for the Bulldog pride,” he said.
