Bulldogs tough in close loss to Fairhaven

Sep 19, 2015

The Bulldogs are searching for their first win after a narrow loss to the Fairhaven Blue Devils at the team’s home opener Friday night.

Defeated 8-6, the Bulldogs showed offensive and defensive improvements following a 34-0 drubbing against Cardinal Spellman High School on Sept. 11.

In the first quarter, a hard hit on Blue Devil Jacob Cadieux halted the game as the full back lay motionless on the field for nearly 10 minutes. He eventually got up as teammates helped him to the bench.

The Bulldogs were first to score in the second quarter on a 10-yard pass from quarterback Cam Hamilton to Grant Reuter.

A field goal attempt went wide and the team failed to earn the extra point.

The Blue Devils answered later in the quarter when John Bulgar ran the ball into the end zone within inches of being out of bounds.

Instead of a field goal, Fairhaven went for the 2-point conversion. Quarterback Ian Furtado attempted a run and flicked the ball to Tyler Mello moments before Old Rochester could make a tackle.

In the last 2 minutes of the fourth, the Bulldogs marched down the field aided by several violations from Fairhaven.

Blue Devil defense proved too tough in the end, and the Bulldogs were unable to reach the end zone.

Fairhaven ran the game out with 34 seconds on the clock.

The Bulldogs' next game is away on Friday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. against Apponequet High School to be played at Griffith Field.
