Buzzards Bay Coalition to improve trail

On Monday night, the Conservation Commission approved 10 “bog boards” to improve a trail in the Brandt Island Road area.

The Buzzards Bay Coalition proposed the boards to protect wet areas of the path and to give walkers an easier way to avoid muddy areas on a trail, which connects the bike path with the Nasketucket Bay State Reservation.

“There are a number of locations where it’s soggy,” said Brendan Arnett, vice-president, watershed protection.

The bog boards will consist of two round logs supporting long pine boards that span the wet and muddy areas.

The trail is part of an approximately 400-acre land conservation project completed in December. Arnett said the trail cuts across woodland and farm fields.

Arnett also said the Coalition hopes to get the board set up before the trails are heavily used this season.
