Buzzards Bay Coalition to receive over $45,000 to monitor water quality

Apr 22, 2021

The Buzzards Bay Coalition will receive a grant of more than $45,000 to monitor water quality in the bay, state Senator Marc Pacheco announced on April 21.

The nonprofit coalition will be awarded a $45,474 Water Quality Monitoring Grant, which provides funding to test water quality in rivers, lakes, ponds, and coastal resources across the commonwealth.

Seven partner organizations will use the grant funding to purchase equipment and supplies for long-term monitoring at more than 400 sites in the Buzzards Bay, Cape Cod and Islands watersheds.

Previous assessments for local bodies of water will also require updating with information on their current condition.

“I am very pleased to announce that the Buzzards Bay Coalition will be receiving over $45,000 to ensure better quality water for local communities in the Buzzards Bay watershed region,” said Senator Pacheco. “Residents deserve access to clean, safe, and affordable water and these valuable resources will help establish more effective long-term water quality oversight.”

“With the effects of climate change fundamentally affecting the health of our oceans and waterways, maintaining and monitoring water quality is an imperative for safeguarding the health and safety of local residents,” he added.
