Calvin L. Dexter, 68, of Mattapoisett died January 7 at Tobey Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Wareham, the son of the late Chester G. and Beatrice B. (Vossahlik) Dexter, he lived in Mattapoisett all of his life. He was employed as a mechanic and also worked in several boatyards.

He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed working in the pit crew at Seekonk Speedway. Mr. Dexter also enjoyed spending "coffee time" with his friends at "the wharf."

Survivors include his brother, John Dexter of Marstons Mills; five sisters, Janet Raymond and Florence Vossahlik, both of Marion, Janice Southworth and Diane Baron, both of Fairhaven and Patricia Tapper of Mattapoisett; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Shirley Houck, Daniel Dexter, Susan Fink and Chester Dexter, Jr.

His Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 21 at 11 a.m. in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home For Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6) Mattapoisett. Burial will follow in Pine Island Cemetery.
