Celebrity chef cooks up signature dishes at Fall Festival

Oct 20, 2014

As a member of the first team from New England to win the Jack Daniels World Championship Invitational Barbecue, Andy Husbands knows his way around a grill.

On Saturday Husbands, a celebrity chef who owns two Boston restaurants and has appeared on Fox’s Hell’s Kitchen, prepared a number of dishes for a Fall Harvest Barbecue hosted by The Preserve at the Bay Club.

In addition to the barbecue, guests were welcomed to tour a model home as The Preserve looks to sell and develop more lots within the country-club community.

The sweet, smoky aroma of smoked pork greeted visitors as they arrived.

Slow cooked for 14 hours in his barbecue rig parked nearby, the resulting pork was used in Husbands' recipe for pulled pork sliders topped with homemade coleslaw.

And though he’s based in Boston, he finds time to travel and compete with his internationally recognized barbecue team, iQue BBQ.

“If somebody wants really excellent barbecue, we’ll show up,” he said.

In 2009, iQue won overall at the annual Jack Daniels’ sponsored competition. Before that in 2007, the team’s briskets won first place at the American Royal barbecue contest held in Kansas City.

Husbands is also the author of “The Fearless Chef” and “Grill to Perfection.”

Along with members of iQue BBQ, Husbands co-authored “Wicked Good Barbecue.” Signed copies of that book were free to guests who registered early for the event.

Sharon Viens, director of sales at The Preserve noted that home sales have been brisk so far as events such as Saturday's barbecue help to drive interest. Of the 36 lots to be developed only 13 are still available for reservation.
