Center School kids get surprise before holiday break

Dec 19, 2014

Not only did kids get to wear their pajamas to school on Friday, but Center School students also got an unexpected summoning to the gym  for a surprise cooked up by their teachers.

As they walked down the hallway with paper gingerbread "tickets" in hand, they were greeted by decorations of candy canes, animals and gingerbread men.

"This is awesome!" exclaimed one pajama-clad kid.

At the gym door, they put their tickets into an oven to cook and went inside to find Principal Rose Bowman ready to read them "The Gingerbread Baby" by Jan Brett.

Bowman told the kids, "This is a very special ending to a very special week."

A projection of each page was put up for students to see as Bowman read the story aloud.

Teachers began working on the decorations on Thursday afternoon and the area was blocked off to keep kids in the dark about the surprise. Last year, teachers also caught students off guard with a reading of "The Polar Express," complete with a conductor and train tickets.
