MARION — An East Wareham woman has been charged with robbery by Raynham Police after she allegedly tried to rob a convenience store at needle-point and led State Police in a car chase which ended on Front Street on Monday night.

According to police scanner reports, State Police chased the driver, later identified at Ashley Demers, 34 of East Wareham, through Marion before she crashed into a stone wall outside of 448 Front Street.

Raynham Police said they received a 911 call at approximately 6:07 p.m. reporting a robbery at the Seasons Corner Market in Raynham.

Police say a description was given of an adult female suspect, later identified as Demers, who brandished a needle she claimed to be infected with AIDS before leaving with cash.

A notice was issued to surrounding communities to be on the lookout for the suspect and vehicle. Moments later, the vehicle was identified by State Police as being wanted in connection with a similar robbery in New Bedford.

State Police allegedly located the vehicle and made a traffic stop in Marion after a brief vehicle pursuit through the town. Demers was arrested there after a brief on-scene investigation and was booked at the State Police barracks in Dartmouth.

Raynham Police said Demers likely faces additional charges in other communities in addition to charges stemming from the chase and motor vehicle infractions identified by State Police.
