There were carols, there was candy and there was Santa on a fire truck.
Rochester officially kicked off the holiday season Monday night as residents gathered in front of Town Hall for the annual tree lighting ceremony.
The Rochester Memorial School chorus and band were in attendance, each performing Christmas carols to set the mood.
After the performances were through and the tree was lit, Santa arrived on a fire engine and handed out candy canes to all the children in attendance.
