Update: Convenience store open again
Sep 29, 2020

MARION — The Cumberland Farms at the intersection of Route 6 and Front Street is temporarily closed after a covid test result for an employee came back positive on Sept. 29.

The store will be cleaned and sanitized by an industrial cleaning crew and will re-open in the next few days, Cumberland Farms said in a press release.

All employees who work at the store have been contacted and advised to follow recommended guidelines from the Center for Disease Control.

“We are making every effort to provide the affected team member and our broader team with the necessary resources and support,” the statement said.

The employee who tested positive informed her co-workers that day and the store was promptly closed at 3 p.m.

Town Adminstrator Jay McGrail said that, after an investigation was conducted by Public Health Agent David Flaherty and Fire Chief Brian Jackvony, the town is “satisfied with the response plan that they’ve given us.”

After the closure, customers rolled up to the gas station convenience store confused about the locked doors. Cumberland Farms is usually full of folks getting coffee and snacks at that time of the afternoon, along with Tabor Academy students who are allowed to the walk to Cumbies.

An employee briefly came out the doors of the shop to tell a customer the store was closed because of a positive covid test.
