DEP hearing on 290-foot pier rescheduled to April 16

A public hearing with the state Department of Environmental Protection to hear comments on a residential pier planned for 3 Goodspeed Island has been rescheduled to April 16 at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at Old Hammondtown School.

The meeting was postponed from March 5 due to inclement weather.

The meeting will be held under the provisions of the Massachusetts Public Waterfront Act, Chapter 91 Licensing.

The pier is to be constructed by the property owners, Daniel and Laurie Darosa, and will be 245 feet long, with an additional 45 foot perpendicular extension on the seaward end. Fifty-three feet of the pier would be constructed upon the coastal beach, and 183 feet would extend from the mean high water line into Mattapoisett Harbor.

The DEP Division of Waterways will have personnel present at the public hearing to listen to comments.

Those presenting comments at this hearing are suggested to submit, along with their oral comments, a written copy that can be left with the DEP officials present at the hearing. Following the hearing, the DEP will accept written comments for a 20-day period.
