Dieter Lange, 89
Buzzards Bay - Dieter Lange, son of Carl and Maria (Gruber)Lange was born in 1934 in Werdau, Germany and passed after a short illness August 20, 2023 at the age of 89.
At age 18 he fled East Germany and settled in Stuttgart. There he attended Polytechnical College in Munich and after graduating, he worked for his father in the box making business. He then immigrated to Wareham, MA in 1962 where he learned the upholstery and canvas trade. He worked for many clients of boat yards across Cape Cod and the Florida Mid-Keys where he spent many winters. He was recognized for his expertise in upholstery and canvas which was his lifetime business. Dieter was a very proud US citizen.
He married Marilyn (Beaton) in 1964 and they had one daughter, Marissa. The family traveled to Florida for many vacations and visited Hawaii, Switzerland and Germany. For years they enjoyed swimming in Buttermilk Bay with their daughter and later with grandson Rhys deMelo.
Dieter was a jovial man who lit up the room. Early mornings he enjoyed socializing with his breakfast buddies at local restaurants. He thrived on joking with friends and having a good time. While in Florida in the winter he played tennis for many years. In later years he was a devoted care giver for his wife. He will be lovingly missed by many relatives, friends and neighbors.
Dieter is survived by his son-in-law Ed deMelo, grandson Rhys deMelo, brother Ingolf (Irena) of Germany, sister Ursula Suddard of Florida, nephew Timothy (Marjorie) Suddard, niece Marlena (Mark) Erikson, great nephews Thomas, Cooper and Zane, great niece Kathryn, sister-in-law Donna (Robert) Jones, friend and care giver Robin Gomes.
Dieter was predeceased by his wife Marilyn of 57 years and daughter Marissa, brother-in-law Paul Suddard, mother and father-in-law Gilbert and Ruth Beaton.
